Northern Credit Union Announces Winners for 2014 Kids' Photo Contest

(SAULT STE. MARIE – December 3, 2013) – The Northern Kids Photo Calendar Contest launched in the fall and encouraged youth in Northern’s local communities to submit a picture depicting what makes them “True North Strong”. The contest was inspired by Northern’s “True North Strong” brand launch, which was introduced earlier this year. First place prizes of $1,000 RESP contributions and second place prizes of $500 RESP contributions will be given in both the elementary and secondary school categories. All four winners will also receive an iPod nano. In addition, the first place winners’ schools will receive a Canon Rebel Camera Prize Pack to encourage the art of photography in our local schools.

Secondary School:
First Place: Karine Boucher – Grade 12, Wawa  
Second Place: Tyler LeBel – Grade 9, Sault Ste. Marie
Elementary School:
First Place: Julia Mayes – Grade 7, Thunder Bay
Second Place: Samantha Stevenson – Grade 8, Englehart
“The Northern Kids Photo Contest is about celebrating the future leaders of our communities. We congratulate all of the students who participated in the contest and thank them for bringing “True North Strong” to life in our local communities. A total of 182 entries were submitted and 1310 votes were tallied. The 10 submissions with the highest number of votes from both elementary and secondary categories were reviewed by a Northern Credit Union committee in order to determine first and second place winners. The winners will be among the 24 featured in the 2014 Northern Kids Photo Calendar, which will be available in all Northern Credit Union locations mid-December.
