ALBERT W. SURACI, CPA, CGA
President & CEO
Albert (Al) Suraci has been President and CEO of Northern Credit Union since 1994. Over the course of his leadership, Northern has grown from 11 branches in nine communities managing $180 million in assets, to 33 branches, in 30 communities and more than $1.25 Billion in assets across Ontario.
Growing Northern into the largest credit union in Northern Ontario, Al’s 35 years of management in the Credit Union system is supported by an impressive list of accreditation. These include an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from Laurentian University, a Certified General Accountant designation (1985), a graduate of the Credit Union Institute of Canada and in 2006 attaining the Designation as a Certified Chief Executive from the Credit Union Executive Society – completing programs at Wharton (University of Pennsylvania), Johnson School (Cornell University) and Darden Graduate School of Business Administration (University of Virginia).
Over the years, Al has made a commitment to give back to the credit union system by serving on various Boards and Committees. Provincially, Al has served on the Board of Directors for the Credit Union Managers’ Association and the Credit Union Services Association. Currently he Chairs the Ontario Insurance Advisory Council on behalf of Ontario credit unions, and has been a long-standing member of the Central 1 Advisory Council. Locally, Al has also served as a Director and Chaired the Sault Ste. Marie Chapter of the Certified General Accountants Association of Ontario and he currently is serving in a Director capacity for the Northern Ontario Centre for Learning Disabilities.
RICHARD ADAM, CPA, CA
Senior Vice President, Finance & Administration
A key part of the Northern Credit Union family since 1996, Richard Adam is our Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration – leading multiple departments including finance, credit, internal audit and risk management. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (with Honours) from the University of Windsor, a Certified Public Accountant (Chartered Accountant) designation from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Ontario and a Certified Chief Executive designation from the Credit Union Executive Society.
With over 30 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant in the public accounting and financial services industry, Richard’s wealth of knowledge has been instrumental to Northern’s growth, as well as the financial well-being of its members. Richard has served on the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario’s Enterprise Risk Management Committee and Central 1 Credit Union’s Act Review Committee.
TONY DUNHAM, B.COMM., CFP
Senior Vice President, Strategy, Innovation And Operations
A member of the Northern Credit Union executive team since 2010, Tony is Senior Vice President of Strategy, Innovation And Operations. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Laurentian University and has more than 15 years’ experience in the financial service sector.
Tony is accountable for the overall functioning of all Member-impacting departments, including Retail and Commercial Sales, Marketing and Information Technology. He is committed to growing Northern’s relationships with current and potential members, and with Tony’s guidance, we are able to constantly evolve the products, services and delivery channels we offer. Tony is dedicated not only to the well-being of the organization, but also the communities we serve, and is an advocate for making financial literacy resources and programs accessible to those in and around Northern’s footprint.
Senior Vice President, Human Resources
Brandy Heikoop is Senior Vice President, Human Resources for Northern Credit Union. As head of Northern’s Human Resources department, Brandy is helping to accelerate Northern through leadership, attracting and developing the best talent and building a culture of engagement, agility, and innovation.
With over 30 years of experience within the financial service industry, Brandy is well versed in many of the key facets needed for running and providing employees with a healthy and prospering business environment.
Prior to her current role, Brandy was Director of Sales at Northern and held the roles with a national financial organization. Through these roles, she contributed to skill refinement, succession planning and performance management and has gained valuable knowledge in areas such as retention, hiring, employee relations, and change management.
Senior Vice President, Member Experience (Interim)
Having completed a number of various roles for Northern over the past 10 years, Terry joins us on an interim basis as Senior Vice President, Member Experience. In this role Terry is responsible for the overall Member experience, including Retail, Wealth and Commercial Lines of business. Terry has over 35 years’ experience in financial services, including senior roles with RBC. Having worked throughout Northern Ontario, Terry has extensive knowledge of the members and communities where Northern has a presence.
He is committed to optimizing Northern’s overall distribution model, while ensuring we are positioned to meet our Member’s needs and grow our relationships with both our existing Members and potential new Members.
